Hello, my name is James Ocampo. I’m a senior undergraduate majoring in Computer Science at the University of South Florida. I am honored to be a part of the RARE Lab team and determined to be a strong contributor.

My interests are in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and robotics. I intend to learn as much as I can about their applications through research with the brilliant members of this team.

The RARE Lab offered me a valuable opportunity to delve into Augmented Reality. I gained hands-on experience developing mixed reality applications using Vuforia and Unity and deploying them on the HoloLens. Working on the Robot Indicators Study alongside Hong and Ridhima was particularly rewarding; I was involved from initial development to preparing for IRB review. Additionally, I acquired foundational skills in data visualization using R and ggplot2, which would be instrumental during the data analysis phase of their experiment.

The lab also sparked my interest in robotics. I worked with the Pepper Robot and the Fetch Robot on a separate project. My primary challenge was understanding the ROS documentation, but I believe this experience will be beneficial for my future endeavors if I explore robotics further.
