Hi! My name is Linh Ha, but you can also call me Liam. I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the University of South Florida, where my interests are centered around software development which aims to create a positive social impact.

At the RARE Lab, I’m collaborating with a team of researchers on an exciting project: we are developing a social tabletop robot powered by large language models. This initiative is designed to address the mental health challenges faced by college students, exploring new ways to solve social issues through the innovative integration of robotics, software engineering, and machine learning.

The more we know, the more we don’t. Our potential is boundless!

The time I spent at the RARE Lab was nothing short of transformative. I had the unique opportunity to work on an academic paper that integrates storytelling algorithms into the Misty robot, enhancing its ability to engage users with captivating narratives that were generated on the fly. Being mentored by Dr. Han and collaborating with my labmates like Tammy, we pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in human-robot interaction. My technical skills is put into challenge as I learn, explore and experiment with different popular LLM model.

My journey at the lab wasn’t just about technical growth; it was a deep dive into a collaborative, innovative environment where every challenge was a stepping stone to greater learning. The experience not only sharpened my engineering and programming skills but also instilled a robust understanding of practical, impactful robotics applications. I’m super grateful for the time spent here and the people I work with, and I am confident that the skills and insights gained will profoundly shape my future endeavors in tech.
