Throughout my time in the RARE lab, I’ve had the opportunity to develop competency in ROS and important workflow tools such as Linux and Git. I gained experience in research and conducting an experiment testing the effectiveness of robot protectives in preventing abuse, and developed valuable communication skills in a professional setting. In addition, I had the opportunity of working on the fog screen device system, learning more about the nature of working with robots and improving my understanding of computer networking and frameworks such as ROS that aim to universalize programming frameworks across robots.

I’d like to thank Dr. Zhao Han for the opportunity to work in his lab and look forward to applying the meaningful experience I’ve gained in the lab to future work.

Hi! My name is Waylon Erlandson. I’m a rising sophomore in computer engineering at the University of South Florida, interested in the design and development of intelligent systems.

I first gained experience in robotics through the Foundations of Engineering Lab at USF and have since become interested in developing systems with more valuable and complex functionality. Through the RARE lab, I look to gain an understanding of software design in robotic systems and contribute to the design of safe and useful robots.
