Hey! I am Felix Mendez, a Computer Science junior here at the University of South Florida. I am particularly interested in the use of AI and cognitive science to improve human-robot interactions.

I’m eager to work alongside the incredible researchers in the lab and make meaningful strides toward bringing robots’ benefits to our society. As I work on projects in the lab, I hope to fill it out more here.

Over the past two semesters in the RARE Lab, I worked on integrating a large language model (LLM) for collaborative storytelling into the Misty II robot and, more recently, began investigating LLM hallucinations in creative contexts. I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with brilliant fellow researchers Tammy, Suyog, and Chi, which made the experience especially rewarding. This work took place in a highly structured and supportive environment, thanks to Dr. Han’s thoughtful lab policies and active mentorship. The workflows he has established and his close involvement make the lab feel like an industry-standard research team, and an ideal place to learn how to conduct meaningful research in a structured and organized way.
