Hi, my name is Andrew Texeira. I am a rising junior who attends the University of Rhode Island during the school year. I am at USF for a summer undergraduate research experience and look forward to enhancing both my technical and professional skills. I have been working on robots since the second semester of my freshman year, and from that point on, I have programmed and designed a handful of robots, from wheeled land robots to a robotic hand that plays rock, paper, scissors. I enjoy seeing all the advancements being made in the field of robotics and hope to contribute in a way that helps humanity meaningfully.
I am excited to be a part of the RARE Lab this summer and look forward to furthering my knowledge of robotics.

This summer, I spent 10 weeks at the RARE lab as part of an REU program. Using my background in CAD and electronics, I helped develop a low-cost companion robot. Along the way, I learned a ton about building prototypes in a research setting and collaborating in a professional team environment. I also deepened my knowledge of 3D printing and electrical hardware. I’m especially grateful to Zhao Han for giving me this opportunity, it’s given me skills and experiences that will help me as both a researcher and an engineer.
